Queen Vanna Thornburg
MEMPHIS BLUES QUEENS

Profile

My royal name is Queen Vanna Venus of Aquafina. Yes, as in sort of like Vanna White from Wheel of Fortune, and yes water is my beverage of choice. When my two grown children first gazed upon my dazzling presence in my sparkly blue costume, they gasped and said "Mom, you NEED some therapy!!".  To which I replied "This IS my therapy!!"

I was invited to the Blues Queens’ very first organizational meeting with two other girls whom I knew from my Bunko group. Since I actually already owned not only a boa but my very own tiara, I paid my years dues up front at that very first meeting.

I am supposedly the choreographer for the group. This has been a very interesting task for me, since I have absolutely NO background in dance or pom whatsoever. So I am very proud of my fellow queens for taking my meager efforts and rocking the house with our routines!!

The main way these wonderful queens have enriched my life is that they are so very much fun to be with.  Too many people spend all of their lives so terribly worried about what other people think about them that they forget to live.

I am a collector of plaques with sayings on them. One of them says "The older I get, the more I feel like myself."  But my favorite one pretty much sums up my feelings about life in general. It reads...

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming,"WOW, WHAT A RIDE!"

And, OF COURSE, I will be wearing my TIARA when the end comes!!!!!
